When will I get my refund?
The IRS usually issues most refunds within 21 Calendar Days. In some instances if a tax refund takes longer than this time frame it may be due to the following reasons:
- errors
- The refund is incomplete
- It needs further review
- It might be affected by identity theft or fraud
- includes Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation (up to 14 weeks to process.)
In all cases, if the IRS needs to obtain more information they will contact you by mail. The IRS can only review the status of your tax return after 21 calendar days of an electronically filed return or more than 6 weeks of a paper return.
What’s the fastest way to check the status of my refund?
Use the IRS2Go mobile app or the Wheres My Refund? tool, both provided by the IRS. You can start checking the status of your tax return within 24 hours after your e-filed return is processed or 4 weeks after a paper return is mailed. Additionally if you have any questions regarding your tax return, you can always ask us.
